"At first glance, Sonja Kalmanfi’s portfolio presents a coherent visual language. The selected works are predominantly executed in acrylic on linen, with some works also incorporating pastel or chalk on cardboard. She approaches landscape in a figurative yet subtly impressionistic manner, with particular attention to the effects of natural light and atmosphere. The subject matter is remarkably consistent: forests, trees, sea views, rivers, small houses, nocturnal scenes and Mediterranean landscapes all belong to the same geographical and emotional world of the Cilento National Park. Rather than simply repeating one type of landscape, she captures different locations, seasons, times of day and atmospheric conditions, gradually building a broader visual portrait of the region. Her brushwork is soft and controlled, with relatively thin applications of paint rather than heavily impastoed surfaces. This gives the paintings a smooth, delicate and almost silky quality. Her treatment of light is particularly effective, creating a convincing sense of atmosphere without overwhelming the composition."
